Proficiency testing: ashi provides a proficiency testing program for clinical histocompatibility testing laboratories. The program's four survey categories are designed to emulate routine clinical testing: hla typing, hla-b27 detection, engraftment monitoring; and, crossmatching and antibody screening/identification.

Accreditation: the objective of ashi's laboratory accreditation program is to maintain the highest standards of reliability and quality in histocompatibility testing laboratories. The accreditation program evaluates laboratory personnel, procedures and facilities to determine if they are in compliance with ashi standards and with those standards of organization which have granted ashi deemed status. It promotes the educational aspect of the accreditation process, particularly in assisting laboratories in the correction of deficiencies, and maintains the society's awareness of standard and novel testing procedures and methodologies.
