Certification and accreditation: the society offers certification and accreditation in breast ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures. Certification demonstrates an individual surgeon's dedication to quality patient care and public safety through adherence to established standards for performance of these procedures. The program offers a means of recognition to individual surgeons who meet criteria in the areas of clinical experience, training, and quality assurance. Accreditation is designed to ensure that facilities have met the applicable requirements regarding personnel (physicians, ultrasound technologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses), equipment, quality control and quality assurance programs, and accuracy of examinations and procedures being performed.
