Innovative research: support health services research that foster innovation in pharmacy practice, which promotes the optimal, safe and effective use of medication.pharmacy practice advancement demonstration grant (pai): this grant previously awarded funding up to $75,000 split into three (3) separate payments for demonstration projects related to advancing pharmacy practice and improving outcomes. The grant period for this program is 24 months with the possibility for grantees to request an extension up to one year. The final grant payment for this program was remitted in fy24. American foundation for pharmaceutical education (afpe) pre-doctoral fellowship: the ashp foundation provided annual funding of $10,000 for the afpe pre-doctoral fellowship program awarded to ph.d. Students whose research projects focus on improving health outcomes in hospitals, health systems, and ambulatory care clinics. Radio frequency identification (rfid) initiative: in alignment with the ashp innovation center and through support from fresenius kabi, the ashp foundation continued to work on the next phases of the rfid initiative. February 2024, a new research report was published. Ashp foundation staff worked with the sponsor on activities for remaining funds to be used in fy25. Pharmacy leadership scholars:with corporate support from chiesi, the third cycle of the pharmacy leadership scholars program was launched. The research grant program provides funding for projects focused on dei, conducted by early-stage pharmacists. In addition to providing up to $10,000 in grant funding per recipient, the program's goal is to enhance the leadership and research skills of recipients and to provide a network of pharmacists positioned to lead for equity. The selected participants participated in an online impact collaborative consisting of four education modules with a focus on leadership development and dei. Ten proposals were received and advanced for review by an external panel in fy24.collaborative care grant for nurses and pharmacists:created in partnership by the ashp foundation and the american nurses foundation, this grant program aims to stimulate patient-centered interprofessional health services research that demonstrates meaningful outcomes and provides funding of $75,000. The final payment for the first cycle's grant recipient and first grant payment for the second cycle's grant recipient were remitted in fy24. The third cycle of the program opened, thirty-four proposals were received and advanced for review by an external panel, and one research team was awarded in fy24. The initial grant payment for the third awardee is pending receipt of their internal review board (irb) approval. Biosimilars project:the research report was published in december 2023 and the contractors paid accordingly. The program was sponsored by viatris. A webinar about the results of the report was conducted in february 2024. Mue project: treatment of skin and soft tissue infections in the emergency department: evaluating omadacycline use:the foundation convened an advisory panel of experts to facilitate the creation of treatment of skin and soft tissue infections in the emergency department: evaluating omadacycline use. The report was published in june 2023 and a webinar to discuss the findings in the report was conducted in july 2023. A podcast was then released in september 2023. The manuscript for the project was published in ajhp fy25 (july). Specialty pharmacy grant for patients with inflammatory bowel disease:administered by the foundation in close consultation with the ashp section of specialty pharmacy practitioners, and supported by omnicell, the second cycle of the grant was specialty pharmacy for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The grants were awarded in spring 2024. The cohort will engage in with a coach and faculty on live calls to discuss topics related to research, disseminating outcomes, and implementation throughout fy25. Four grantees were selected from 11 applications. Specialty pharmacy grant: rheumatoid arthritis: in fy24, the grantees for the specialty pharmacy grant: rheumatoid arthritis, engaged in live calls with a coach, engaged in writing sessions for manuscripts, and presented an educational session titled specialty pharmacy: demonstrating the impact on the care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis at the 2023 ashp midyear meeting in anaheim, ca. Pharmacy resident practice-based research grant program: this grant program is funded through the almquist endowment. Nineteen submissions were received for the grant and an external peer review panel recommended awarding 7 grants up to $5,000. One grant was funded through the tousignaut fund. New practitioner pharmacist leadership development research grant program:funded through the marianne f. Ivey leadership development fund, awards new practitioner pharmacists to support research on leadership competency development or to create education, resources and tools to support leadership development. A new application cycle was not opened in fy24. The ashp foundation will shift to a different program in fy25. Tracking and follow-up of past grantees continued in fy24. Optimizing technology solutions innovation grant: six applications were reviewed by an external panel in order to distribute funding to grantees in fy25 after irb approval is received. Created in partnership with the ashp innovation center and supported by a generous donation from omnicell to the ashp foundation, two grantees were awarded up to $30,000. Research advisory council:two members completed their service in may 2024 and rolled off the committee. The rac convened virtually throughout the year and led a virtual networking session in summer 2023. The rac participated in an in-person meeting at ashp headquarters in september 2023, to align with ashp's policy week activities. There were two research podcasts launched in fy24 and a research roundtable during the ashp midyear clinical meeting in december 2023. Pharmacy forecast report 2024: the 2024 pharmacy forecast report was supported by a grant from omnicell, inc., to the ashp foundation's david a. Zilz leaders for the future fund and was published in ajhp in the january 15, 2024 issue. The distribution of the forecast report in ajhp ensured that it was made available to all 60,000 ashp members. It was published electronically in december 2023 and previewed during an educational session at the 2023 ashp midyear clinical meeting. The report generated authoritative, actionable strategic recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of leaders in hospital and health-system pharmacy.
