Mission

The asla fund invests in global, social, and environmental change through the art and science of landscape architecture. The fund supports educational programs, public awareness efforts, community initiatives, and the asla professional and student awards program. Together, these activities promote sustainable, resilient, and equitable landscapes while celebrating the profession's contributions to shaping healthier communities and environments.

Programs

Educational initiatives and public outreach. The asla fund is committed to advancing education, fostering inclusion, and promoting the transformative power of landscape architecture. In 2024, this commitment was reflected in a $190,000 national endowment for the humanities grant award for teaching environmental humanities through landscape architecture, a project designed to help k-12 educators integrate design and stewardship into classrooms. Although federal funding for the grant was later rescinded, the award highlighted the fund's leadership in linking landscape architecture and the humanities. The fund also hosted dream big with design: teacher's edition, a three-day event that brought eight elementary educators to the asla center in washington, d.c., where they gained tools and ideas to introduce landscape architecture concepts to students and inspire them to reimagine their schoolyards and communities.

Expenses: $410K

Fundraising and strategic investment in the profession. In 2024, the asla fund grew its founders club to 140 members, surpassing its 125th anniversary goal of 125 members. Funds raised supported programs that make the profession more welcoming and equip landscape architects to address today's challenges. The fund's licensure advancement program provided exam support, resources, and mentorship to help 10 professionals move toward licensure. The fund also produced tools that help members, policymakers, researchers, and educators communicate the value of nature-based solutions. These included a brief for policymakers on economic benefits, an analysis of 175 u.s. Project case studies for researchers and educators, and a guide for members on making the economic case for climate-resilient design with clients.
