The dayton national cemetery honor squad's primary function is providing the three-volley ceremonial rifle salute. We also provide full military honors in the absence of dod, including folding of the flag, presenting the flag to the next of kin, and the rendering of taps. We serve at approximately 1,200 military funerals per year.

The avhc is leading an effort to place a statue of former president abraham lincoln on the dayton va campus. It will not only welcome people to the campus while honoring lincoln, but it will provide a place for solitude, reflection and healing. It will also stimulate teaching and learning opportunities, while creating a significant tourist destination point. The statue was placed on the grounds of the va campus in 2024.
