Animal House Project

The safehaven animal rescue team operates a full-scale rescue, rehome, and sanctuary program in northeast texas, dedicated to large-breed dogs. The program leases two acres from a legacy ranch and manages all utilities and operating costs while providing full medical care including spay/neuter, heartworm testing and prevention, vaccinations, training, boarding, and food. In 2023 safehaven placed 90 dogs in loving homes across the united states and canada; in 2024, 67 dogs were successfully rehomed. Overflow housing is managed through three offsite partner facilities, ensuring every animal receives proper care until adoption or sanctuary placement.

Since 2016, animal house project has operated the rescue pet food pantry to supply donated pet food to smaller 501(c)(3) dog and cat rescue organizations. The program distributes donations that cannot be allocated to companion pet food pantry, ensuring that all usable food benefits animals in need. In 2024, donor guidelines increased the annual revenue threshold for participating rescues to under 250,000, allowing additional groups to qualify for support. During 2024, the program assisted 50 rescue organizations, helping them reduce operational expenses and improve animal care. Participation is projected to grow in 2025 with the addition of a new outreach program expanding access to food distribution resources.

On january 1, 2024, animal house project launched a new initiative by acquiring a pet retail store to strengthen sustainability and expand program services. This opportunity addressed declining food donations and served three purposes: 1. Establishing direct relationships with pet food manufactures, allowing the property to receive larger donation quantities for its pantries through retail purchase agreements. 2. Offering low-cost vaccines to pantry clients, rescues, and the public to support affordable veterinary care. 3. Providing kennel space to facilitate the movement of dogs north for placement into permanent homes. Two of the three goals were fully realized: manufacturer partnerships and low-cost vaccine services creating both a new community resource and revenue support stream. Through this expansion, animal house project also became the operator of a small-to medium-breed dog rescue, including puppy placements, further enhancing its mission to save lives and support responsible pet ownership.
