Mission

Animal-Kind International supports animal welfare organizations in poor countries, primarily in Africa, secondarily in Latin America/Caribbean. We raise money for them and raise visibility of their work. We track their use of AKI funds and provide this information to our supporters. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements ensuring that they have enough funding to carry on their programs. To broaden our support, we sponsor an annual Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, which funds grant projects based on the submission of a successful proposal. We also provide technical and administrative assistance to our partners and grantees, and to other target organizations to help strengthen African animal welfare organizations.

Program Area 2: Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program (the 7th annual): We awarded grants to 10 animal welfare organizations in Africa: four in South Africa, two in Tanzania, two in Kenya, one in Rwanda, and one in Israel. For 1st year grantees, grant size was limited to $2000. For grantees who successfully completed a grant previously, the grant ceiling was $3000. During the 6-month grant timeline, grantees attracted further support and we topped up 3 grantees. The grants range in size from $1395 to $13000 (including the top-up) and supported projects such as: emergency repair to a cat sanctuary's electric system; emergency construction of a donkey shelter to house donkeys rescued from the illegal skin trade; rescue and vet care of donkeys rescued from Gaza; support for spay/neuter, other vet care and adoption programs; humane castration of donkeys; provision of dog houses; and farrier services for working horses. We awarded grants to: Tanzania Small Animal Veterinary Organization (included an extra $1000 top-up grant) and Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organization, both in Tanzania; Blind Love, SPCA-Grahamstown (plus a $10,000 top-up grant), amaTrac uluntu, and Little Paws Big Hearts, all 4 in South Africa; Kenya SPCA and Nairobi Feline Sanctuary, both in Kenya; Starting Over in Israel (included a $6000 top-up grant); and WAG in Rwanda.
