Anthrocon's mission is to operate an annual convention of cartoon enthusiasts. Activities typically include literary discussions, guest speakers, workshops, and art show, performances and charity events to benefit a local 501(c)3 animal welfare organization.

Anthrocon hosted a luncheon for its sponsor-level attendees to show appreciation and to encourage future sponsorship. Guest speakers were on hand at the luncheon in order to provided for both entertainment and informational discussions. The per-person ticket cost for the luncheon (excluding taxes and surcharges) was included in the registration fee for the sponsor levels.
Anthrocon sponsored a river cruise intended both to allow its costumed performers an opportunity to display their talents to a larger public audience, and to offer attendees an opportunity to experience the sights of Anthrocon's host city of Pittsburgh.
