Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Program: The Arc of Buncombe County and the ABC Board of Asheville joined forces to make women and their significant others aware of the dangers of consuming alcohol during any stage of pregnancy. The Arc provides training, education, and resources within schools, churches, and other community settings for women of childbearing age to learn of this preventable disorder that results in I/DD. Billboards and posters are posted throughout Buncombe County to educate and to provide contact information for resources. This program is also a resource for other substance abuse issues.
Health and Wellness (Healthy Living): This program was designed and presented in community settings to effect change in eating habits, relaxation techniques, yoga, and mindfulness. Data has proven that these programs help I/DD individuals decrease behaviors, increase physical fitness, and enhance their ability to reach their highest potential. This program is supported with summer camps, respite, and training.
