The agency is one of eleven area agencies on aging in the state of florida providing assistance for the development, planning and administration of service programs for the elderly. The agency's service area includes charlotte, collier, desoto, glades, hendry, lee and sarasota counties. The agency is responsible for developing an area plan and subgranting federal and state funds to direct providers of services for older persons to acheive the plan goals.

Programs

General revenue - cce, hce, adi, respite relief - provides in home services to the low income, frail seniors over age 60 with the goal being to reduce or delay premature or inappropriate and expensive placement of older persons in nursing homes and other institutions. 6,412 seniors were served through these programs. Participation in these programs improved quality of life for the seniors and reduced the cost of supportive care to the taxpayers.

Vdc program - the nationwide vdc program allows for veterans to manage their own flexible budgets for their care needs while maintaining their independence at home with dignity. The adrc provides counseling and support, care service planning, and fiscal management services. 127 veterans served.
