Mission
Arizona council of the blind is the statewide consumer membership chapter affiliate of the american council of the blind, which is based in arlington, virginia. The mission of the organization is to increase the independence, security and equality of opportunity, as well as the quality of life for all blind and visually impaired people. Statewide membership is approximately 75 blind and sighted persons residing primarily in the phoenix and tucson areas. The organization's 9-member, all volunteer governing board holds regular meetings, primarily through teleconference. The azcb conducts a program of public education as to the capabilities of people who are blind in settings like white cane day, day at the capitol, disability employment awareness events and others. The azcb also provides a blindness resources information and referral service with a local and staewide 800 line and conducts monthly presentations to individuals who are blind and enrolled in vocational rehabilitation service
