Artists In Motion

PERFORMANCE: In its third fiscal year Artists in Motion AIM celebrated a year of ambitious artistic exploration and community engagement through its 2024-2025 performance season. The season opened with Primavera a bold spring showcase honoring the musical legacies of Roberta Flack and Charles Mingus featuring Mingus Moves-an original contemporary work co-choreographed by Luis Serrano and Carlos Garay Gonzlez merging jazz motifs with urban dance. This performance also featured original choreography by Luis Serrano including a contemporary work performed by Mauricio Stengel. This piece received high acclaim and was awarded Platinum in Contemporary at the Universal Ballet Competition UBC. And featured a moving tribute to Roberta Flack choreographed by George Mason University graduate Jessica Brown showcasing the expressive capabilities of Alchemys dancers in contemporary and lyrical forms. Next came Folklore & Fairytales a culturally rich performance that featured storytelling through traditional dance forms. A highlight was the electrifying Ukrainian folk dance Hopak Gopak choreographed by faculty member Pavlo Yevtushenko bringing explosive athleticism and cultural pride to the stage. In fall 2024 AIM presented Gala Americana a tribute to the late Phil Wiggins spotlighting live blues musicianship and a guest performance by acclaimed tap artist Bakari Wilder. The production highlighted AIMs continued embrace of American musical heritage and intergenerational artistry. The winter season showcased a Celtic Bluegrass Nutcracker Reimagined transforming the classic with live bagpipes Appalachian fiddling and clogging reaffirming AIMs boundary-pushing creativity. The season concluded with preparations for a full-scale production of Don Quixote presented at Capital One Hall solidifying AIMs growing reputation for world-class classical ballet alongside innovative programming.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: In the 2024-2025 season Artists in Motion AIM expanded its community outreach initiatives with a deepened focus on accessibility cultural enrichment and meaningful engagement with local and international communities. Financial Access & Support: AIM provided tuition assistance to underrepresented groups extended training scholarships to Fairfax County students with financial need and granted 50% scholarships to selected winners of the Guadalajara Ballet Competition. These efforts ensured that financial barriers did not prevent promising dancers from pursuing rigorous training at Alchemy Ballet. Community-Centered Performances & Education: With support from the ArtsFairfax Ticket Subsidy Grant AIM provided discounted tickets to area audiences including students seniors and families. This enabled broader community participation in our professionally staged performances which regularly highlighted local artists and diverse cultural contributions. Cultural Exchange & Artist Access: AIM continued to support international artists through travel assistance bringing fresh global perspectives to our studios and stages. This year also included outreach classes workshops and masterclasses with a broad range of artist-educators enriching the local dance ecosystem and encouraging multigenerational participation.
