Asian District Cultural Association

The We Have Arrived project merges an interactive public art sculpture with preserving and documenting a significant historical community event. It aims to provide a platform for the individuals and narratives of the initial Vietnamese refugee boat people who arrived in Oklahoma City in 1975. Collaborating with the present community including survivors and descendants of the original journey we plan to engage continuously during the planning phase to pay tribute to those willing to share their experiences.

The Asian District Cultural Association promotes cultural preservation and community engagement by highlighting the rich heritage of Oklahoma Citys Asian District. This area is home to one of the states largest Vietnamese Chinese and other Asian populations. Through guided tours and educational programming the organization showcases the districts authentic and diverse culinary offerings ranging from traditional dishes to modern fusion cuisine. Additionally it shares the areas historical significance and cultural contributions. These activities support local businesses increase cultural awareness and provide the public with meaningful experiences that celebrate the districts unique history personality and economic vitality.
