Mentor tutorial program: education of the mind, body, and spirit is at the very heart of each aslan program. Without educating the whole person, children are left without the tools necessary to be a productive and well-adjusted member of society. It costs thousands of dollars each year for each individual incarcerated or receiving public support. Any investment in education to encourage a young person to achieve their god-given potential is worth the price! Aslan has developed a successful and highly respected mentor/tutorial program in which aslan's volunteer tutors work one-on-one and provide valuable assistance to students who desperately need it. We help each student understand that they can never achieve greatness in our society without a solid, classical education. Unlike most schools, we teach the basic concepts of mathematics & reading through: 1) old-fashioned flash cards; 2) learning the most common words used in the english language; 3) cursive writing; 4) teaching children to tell time on an analog clock or watch; and, 4) multiple other techniques that were once a part of our education system. Our volunteer tutors become like a family to our children, introducing their students to museums, ball games, and multiple other educational opportunities.

Recreation & enrichment: each aslan program provides wonderful recreational and cultural enrichment activities for area youth. Over our 5 decades of service to urban children these field trips and activities have included: bicycle adventure trips; swimming; wall climbing; zip-lining; swimming; boating; winter alpine ski trips; whitewater rafting; hiking; summer camping; and summer softball, programs in association with brookdale community college & monmouth university. During the summer months, each of our area programs includes a 2-week day camp that combats the common phenomenon with disadvantaged youth that includes sld (summer learning deficit). Because of sld, urban children begin school each fall behind where they graduated from the prior grade. Our education-based summer learning camps teaches young people basic life skills through each of the above activities: 1) how to relate as a team; 2) how to control your emotions; 3) how to consider the needs of others above your needs; 4) how to make wise decisions, even in the midst of difficult situations; 5) how to recognize that the choices you make as a young person will permanently impact your future; 6) how to live a disciplined life rather than the undisciplined & chaotic lives that so many people in our society often live.

Food & Clothing Program and Volunteer Program. Aslan provides nutritious food for our families and children over the major holidays of Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This includes turkeys and groceries over Thanksgiving, turkeys and groceries over Christmas, and hams and groceries over Easter. Throughout the year, we also provide individual bags of groceries for our families and children who are in the greatest need. Many times throughout our history, we have provided winter coats for our children and on many occasions winter blankets. Our volunteer program is very proactive in pairing our children and families in need with families of means.

Aslan In Haiti: In 1996, Aslan took a group of our disadvantaged teenagers from New Jersey to Ouanaminthe, Haiti. This was the beginning of our 29-year ministry in this severely impoverished nation, only 500 miles off the coast of Florida and one of the poorest nations on earth. In 2003, we purchased 6 acres of land in a remote area south of Ouanaminthe called Le Acajou. After the devastating hurricane in 2010 that claimed over a quarter million Haitian lives, Aslan had a 1000 square foot medical clinic built from Conex boxes in the USA, shipped it to Haiti, and placed on our land in Le Acajou. In 2014, Aslan drilled a 90-foot, deep-water well on our property to service the medical clinic and also provide clean drinking water for hundreds of Haitian families who had previously drunk water from the terribly polluted Masacre River. The area immediately began to see a reduction in cholera and other deadly diseases spread through unclean water. Aslan has also built a thriving church with a professional music school and a professional sewing school. Our medical clinic only charges a tiny fee (approximately $1 USD for providing our services of seeing a doctor).
