Assistance League Coachella Valley

FRANK MOSS SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS: Assistance League supports public high school students by providing financial assistance to enable them to pursue their area of interest in the performing arts (vocal music, instrumental music, dance, theatre). Financial assistance is provided for use while the student is in high school. Funding can be for a broad range of services or purchases. Including private lessons, classes, and purchase of equipment or supplies. In 2023-24, 65 high school students received assistance with 49 students receiving assistance of $48,000 in 2024-2025. Program participants improve their performing arts skills, develop more confidence, and are better prepared to thrive in the future including more college opportunities.

WE CARE FOCUS ON MILITARY FAMILIES: Our Assistance League chapter provides support to military families stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. Annually, we host a Baby Shower luncheon for expectant mothers, both active-duty military personnel and spouses of active-duty personnel. Carefully selected gifts worth approximately $800 are distributed to each participating mother-to-be. Thirty mothers were honored in April 2025 and twenty-five mothers-to-be were honored in 2024 at this event. The shower is Assistance League's way to thank military families for their service and a way to support mothers-to be who may be far from home during an exciting yet challenging stage of their lives.

SENIOR SERVICES PROGRAM: Through the senior services program, the chapter provides companionship, sponsors entertainment, and supplies clothing and incidentals to disadvantaged Coachella Valley nursing home residents. Musicians contracted by the chapter performed for residents at four low-income nursing homes in 2023-2024 with an additional nursing home added in 2024-2025. Chapter volunteers visited nursing homes, providing companionship to residents. Clothing, footwear, lap blankets and holiday gifts were distributed to residents. Games, puzzles, and reading materials were also distributed to residents. Over 600 seniors benefited from the program.

TEDDY BEAR PROGRAM: A new stand-alone program was started as an outgrowth of services provided in Operation School Bell, Senior Services and Assault survivor program in 2024-2025. We have received commitments from several community agencies (fire department, police departments, health care agencies).

ASSAULT SURVIVOR PROGRAM: A new program was created to help survivors of assault and abuse. The chapter collaborated with Partners Against Violence, a nonprofit organization that assists victims of sexual assault and violent crimes, to supply assault survivor kits. One hundred kits, consisting of pants, shirts, undergarments, footwear, a teddy bear, and a note of compassion, were assembled by chapter volunteers for distribution to assault victims as they are discharged from medical facilities. The kits are intended to preserve the survivor?s dignity by providing them with needed items since victim clothing is typically retained by law enforcement personnel for forensic evidence. Kits with a variety of sizes for women, men and children were provided. The chapter also collaborated with the Barbara Sinatra Children?s Center. Clothing and hygiene supplies were provided for distribution to victims of child abuse and neglect.
