Weatherization assistance directly provides weatherization services to low-income communities and supports community-based organizations through energy audits, training, and technical services in new york. The program reached 322 units in 2023, consisting of small homes and multifamily buildings.
Most other programs involve utility, technical, and new construction work. Utility installs led lighting, showerheads, steam traps, bath and kitchen aerators. This year, 3,035 residences were served, and 27,112 kilowatt-hours and 1,356,842 therms of energy were salvaged. Technical services primarily oversee energy audits and retro-commissioning projects to comply with nyc ll-87 law and electrification studies, equipment specifications, and construction for low-carbon and energy-saving building upgrades. Over 7,700 units benefited. New construction facilitates affordable housing development and certifications under the enterprise green communities program. The median energy savings achieved was a 17.16% improvement over the ashrae 90.1 standard.
The federal government implemented the american rescue plan act in 2022, which set aside funding for electrification services, such as installing heat pumps, water heaters, mini-split systems, and window replacements. Aea performed these services in the bronx and brooklyn, reaching 238 units.
