Annual meeting: the aupo annual meeting is held every winter. The educational meeting addresses trends and topics of which academic departments should be aware: challenges and opportunities in faculty development, ophthalmology teaching and assessment, the education and research training of medical students, and the role of ophthalmology departments in their training.

Resident surgical education: the resident surgical education program's goal is to ensure ophthalmology residency program graduates have a common core level of surgical skill competency.

Other programs support administrators, membership dues administration, salary surveys, and board of trustees activities.
