Advocacy:evaluate federal, state, county, and municipal legislation, policies, and regulatory actions that affect people with asthma and allergic conditions. Translate legislative reviews for patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders by providing summaries or reports. Collaborate with coalitions, community groups, and other non-profit organizations to support healthy living for people with asthma and allergies.
Education for health care professionals, patients, and caregivers:offer accredited, continuing education for health care professionals (doctors, practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, asthma educators, and community health workers) on asthma and allergy-related topics. Provide free patient and caregiver education through information packets and booklets, webinars, podcasts, and online courses. Support a national network of asthma programs and educators. Offer asthma education programs to health departments.
Patient-centered research:incorporate patient perspectives and preferences into the design, conduct, and dissemination of asthma and allergy research to improve health outcomes and inform decision-making. Develop interventions that prioritize what matters most to patients and their families. Recruit clinical trial participants as well as patient advisors for patient-focused drug development. Collect and analyze patient-reported outcomes; patient experience, behaviors, preferences, knowledge; real-world evidence; health care claims data; and other data. Translate research findings to patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders. Publish impact and burden of disease reports. Publish manuscripts, abstracts, white papers, and posters.
