Mission

We promote and provide the resources and education needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.

Programs

Thriftthe apa! Thrift stores started as one store in 2017 and has since expanded to 5 stores spanning across the austin area. The thrift store program is an integral piece to our mission, with all proceeds going directly into our animal care programs and cultivating community throughout austin. The stores have quickly burrowed into the hearts of austinites, providing a large selection of can't-be-beat priced items from clothing to household wares. The community has embraced these stores as a means to upcycle and give back to a beloved austin organization. Apa! Thrift stores also offer monthly events, complete with available pets for adoption. Hosting available pets and adoption events at the stores further helps our patrons connect to the mission.

Expenses: $1.9M

Community outreachan important piece to our mission to end the killing of companion animals lies within keeping pets with the people who love them. Our community outreach programs, human animal support services (hass) and positive alternative to shelter surrender (pass), aim to provide education, services and supplies that aid in keeping pets safe, cared for and out of the sheltering system all together. Hass is a project of apa!'s that began in 2020 and now has over 300 shelter partners across the united states that have embraced the community-centric approach, aiming to marry human and animal welfare industries to serve people and pets in need. In 2024, our pass program supported over 8,000 cases through valuing the human animal bond and offering services such as temporary fostering or supplies, including the distribution of over 80,000 pounds of pet food to community members. These programs bring connection to the center of problem-solving.

Expenses: $1.6M

Transportthe apa! Transport program has become a hugely successful and integral part of our overall mission since 2021. With at least 60 source partners and 80 destination partners across the united states, our transport program has created a network of lifesaving. In 2024 this program transported nearly 2,500 animals, setting the team up to hit the 10,000th transport pet in early 2025, in just 4 short years.
