Mission
The purpose of the corporation is to educate the public about Azorean maritime history and Azorean culture, and especially the skills and crafts related to Azorean whaling history and seamanship.
Programs
2 programs
Maintaining and insuring 3 authentic Azorean whaleboats for community rowing and sailing programs, demonstrations, and international regattas. Additionally, we purchased a building as our new headquarters, which is included as a capital expense and asset.
In 2024, AMHS hosted a local rowing tournament (the 2nd annual Botes Baleeiros Tournament) in New Bedford. There was no international regatta this year, and so no expenses or revenue related to that program service, as this event is held every other years, and we host it typically every 4 years.
