Mission

Assist people with hiv/aids or other illnesses through housing, health services and community.

Programs

1 program

The behavioral health and community services program provided services to low-income people, all of whom live with either hiv/aids or other chronic illnesses. Services are designed to eliminate barriers to care and increase access to quality medical care via medical case management and patient navigation. Over the course of the year, bailey house offered peer-based support groups focusing on health education, recovery, and risk reduction. The health and wellness program consists of a food pantry, providing food assistance via grocery bags for clients and the greater surrounding community, as well as nutrition education through food and meal preparation demonstrations, nutrition workshops and printed materials. Last year, the food pantry provided lots of meals to support the community. Our east harlem neighborhood records the highest rate of psychiatric hospitalizations and the second highest rate of suicide. The clinic operates under a harm reduction philosophy, and the "show rate" for patients is higher than many clinics, an extraordinary accomplishment given the target population typically being difficult to engage in behavioral health care.
