VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION - WORK DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMThe Work Development Program at Bellevue Hospital provides a work experience within the hospital for recovering psychiatric and addicted patients, resulting in rebuilding their confidence, gaining life skills, and enhancing their vocational goals.

GENERAL HOSPITAL PROGRAMSActivities Therapy Music ProgramThis program supports small configurations of musicians for intimate performances. Live music has been shown to alleviate anxiety, fear, depression, and isolation associated with medical illness and disability.Activities Therapy PsychiatryThree different areas are supported for Activities Therapy in all nine Psychiatry Units, providing activities for patients which improve the quality of patient care:(1) Recreation and Sensory supplies for therapeutic group programming and individual patients.(2) Special events, such as holiday and cultural occasions for the patient's treatment and well being.(3) Emergency funds for replacing broken equipment.Sobriety GardenPatients receiving treatment through the Alcoholism Clinic benefit from participation in the Sobriety Garden growing vegetables and flowers and creating decorative folk sculptures.Durable Medical Equipment ("DME") for Undocumented/Uninsured PatientsFunds are provided for patients who do not have any type of medical insurance and are unable to purchase durable medical equipment (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, respiratory equipment, etc.) which enables patients to go home safely.Patient Discharge TravelPatients from all over New York City, the United States and the world are treated at Bellevue Hospital. Some patients require assistance with their transport home upon discharge. The Social Work Department will make such transportation arrangements to facilitate their return home to enable them to receive care from family members and/or healthcare facilities closer to their residence.Addictions Division PsychiatryFunds are provided for therapeutic programming, holiday cultural occasions, special events and supervised outings for patients participating in both the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) and the Chemical Dependency Outpatient Program (CDOP).ChaplaincyFunds are provided for the purchase of religious material (rosaries, Qurans, Bibles, etc.) for the Chaplains to distribute to patients. Spiritual guidance is an integral part of patient care.Patient LibraryThe Patient Library provides reading material, including books, newspapers in several languages and periodicals to all patients. There is a Patient Library on the 6th floor of Bellevue Hospital, as well as a roving cart to bring reading materials to the patient units.
