SUPPORT AN OUTREACH PROGRAM OF BIG SANDY COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE'S DENTAL ASSISTING AND DENTAL HYGIENE INTEGRATED PROGRAM (DA/DH PROGRAM). FOR THIS PROJECT, THE DA/DH PROGRAM WILL PARTNER WITH TWO SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES IN FLOYD AND JOHNSON COUNTIES TO SERVE UP TO 200 SENIOR RESIDENTS. BSCTC'S DA/DH PROGRAM STUDENTS WILL CONDUCT WEEKLY VISITS TO ONE SKILLED NURSING FACILITY PER SEMESTER, SERVING MOUNTAIN MANOR OF PAINTSVILLE IN FALL 2023 AND GOLDEN YEARS REST HOME IN SPRING 2024. UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF DA/DH PROGRAM FACULTY, STUDENTS WILL PROVIDE SENIOR RESIDENTS WITH ON-SITE PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE, ORAL CANCER SCREENINGS, AND ORAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTION. STUDENTS ALSO WILL WORK WITH FACULTY TO DEVELOP INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PLANS AND PROVIDE REFERRALS FOR MORE COMPLEX SERVICES. A DA/DH PROGRAM FACULTY DENTIST WILL VISIT THE SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES TWICE PER SEMESTER TO PROVIDE RESTORATIVE DENTAL CARE AND ASSIST WITH TREATMENT PLANNING.
