Education:black rock forest supported 8,456 student-days, 332 bus-days, and 2388 bed-nights in fiscal year 2024. This includes a diverse array of students of all ages - kindergarten to graduate students. During our summer science adventures, we partnered with local newburgh nonprofits and the newburgh district extended school year program (black rock stem) to provide programming for 371 student visits. We hosted our second educator open house for 21 people. We reinstituted a professional development course for the newburgh teacher center, where 18 newburgh district teachers received learning hours credit for 3 days of instruction on black rock forest field trip logistics and ideas, culminating in a lesson plan for future trips.

Expenses: $369K

Research:during fiscal year 2024 the research department expanded our efforts in forest monitoring, forest ecology, and wildlife conservation, including continued work with road ecology and mitigation partners. The department also facilitated field research activities by external collaborators and provided funding to 5 new research projects through the david redden conservation science fund. Seven peer-reviewed journal articles were published by black rock forest staff or external researchers utilizing our data, facilities, and/or lands.
