Black united fund of oregon's primary exempt purpose is to assist in the social & economic development of oregon's disadvantaged communities by providing financial & management assistance to non-profit agencies & coordinating important community initiatives to stimulate growth & development in low-income neighborhoods.

Community development/philantrophy - buf partners with neighborhood organizations & residents to initiate community problem solving efforts that identify unmet social economic development needs in oregon's low income communities. The issues are addressed thru a wide range of collaborative programs that include healthcare, education, economic development & neighborhood revitalization. Thru educational & outreach initiatives, buf increases awareness to social, economic & cultural significance of philantrophy, builds the capacity of individuals to give & encourage greater philantropic awareness. During the year ended june 30, 2024, 28 grantees received 34,000 to support culturally-specific, small nonprofits to help them weather the impact of covid 19. Collectively these organizations impacted 3,000 youth and young adults in oregon
