Blind early services tn ensures that families are empowered and equipped through specialized programs of support to provide young children who are blind or low vision their absolute best start.

First offered in the winter of 2022, our best advocate program provides quartterly virtual tranng free to parents/caregivers that introduces idea part b law and helps to prepare for the childs transition into school/part b services.

Our best screening program is in the pilot stage phase with the goal of decreasing the age of referral to early intervention vision services. We have also added occupational therapy to our services.

WE PLAN TO HOLD OUR SECOND ANNUAL WHITE CANE EVENT ON DECEMBER 9, 2023 AT THE FACTORY IN FRANKLIN. OUR EVENT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT AROUND THE FIELD OF BLINDNESS THROUGH DEMONSTRATIONS AND HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES AIMED TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE DISABILITY. WE HAD OVER 170 PARTICIPANTS AT OUR 2022 EVENT WHO WERE ENCOURAGED TO DON MASKS AND LEARN ABOUT NAVIGATING WITH A LONG WHITE CANE. VISITORS EXPLORED OTHER SENSORY MEANS TO NAVIGATE, FOLD CLOTHES, TIE SHOES, AND IDENTIFY ITEMS BY SMELL TOUCH AND SOUND. VISITORS ALSO LEARNED HOW BRAILLE IS READ AND WRITTEN.
