Mission

The boston area rape crisis center (barcc) works to end sexual violence through healing and social change. As the only rape crisis center in greater boston and one of the nation's oldest, barcc provides free, inclusive, empowerment-based services to survivors ages 12 and older and their families. Founded as a volunteer-led organization, barcc continues to rely on a nationally recognized volunteer program that includes 40 hours of counselor training and ongoing supervision and support.

Programs

2 programs

Community engagement and prevention:barcc promotes awareness and prevention of sexual violence through education and outreach. Each year, staff and volunteers participate in over 160 events, providing training and workshops for schools, colleges, law enforcement, businesses, and community organizations. Through the movement for access, safety, and survivors (mass) collaboration, barcc works to make services more inclusive and accessible for survivors with disabilities.

Barcc provides counseling and support to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones, conducting 2,670 counseling sessions annually. Through its 24-hour crisis hotline, highly trained and supervised volunteers deliver immediate, confidential support to more than 4,200 callers each year.
