Mission
We enhance the lives of children who need neurosurgery to treat medication-resistant epilepsy.
Programs
3 programs
Research: the alliance initiates and funds research to better understand - and improve - outcomes after surgery. This includes our global pediatric epilepsy surgery registry, the only patient-powered (by parent proxy) study to understand the developmental trajectory after epilepsy surgery in childhood. In 2024, we also held two scientific meetings with researchers, clinicians, and key stakeholders to align on symptom surveillance and screening recommendations after hemispheric surgery.
Financial aid :the dreams for danny surgical evaluation scholarship program alleviates financial barriers for families seeking surgical evaluation for children with drug-resistant epilepsy. This scholarship provides up to $1,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses for families traveling over 50 miles to a level 4 pediatric epilepsy center in the u.s. The program aims to ensure that financial constaints do not hinder access to potentially life-changing surgical consultations.
Advocacy and colaboration: we move our mission forward by collaborating and advocating with high-impact organizations. We do this through our active participation in alliances with other organization, including: perkins school for the blind, epilepsy awareness day at disneyland, the council of parent attorneys and advocate, the american brain coalition, the rare epilepsies network, the infantile spasms action network, dee-p connections, and the epilepsy leadership council of the american epilepsy society. In 2024, our staff gave key presentations at the annual meetings of the national association of school nurses, the council of parent attorneys and advocates, the american epilepsy society, the child neurology society, and the fleni conference on hemispherectomy, and epilepsy awareness day at disneyland.
