Mission
The brg represents and promotes its members' interests as dotbrand operators. As an association, the brg works to improve and develop domain name policies and operational practices in support of brg members' dotbrand registries. Typically, running a top-level-domain registry is not part of an organization's core business, so the brg brings together members with common interest and issues they would like to address. A "dotbrand" is a delegated top-level domain that is identical to an organization's name or brand that the organization owns or has rights in. A "dotbrand" allows a brand-holder to operate its own registry at the root of the internet (instead of using legacy top-level-domains, such as .com, .org, or .biz). Companies from different industries applied for their dotbrand in 2012 and over 550 are now live, providing a trusted space where brand owners have complete control of the domain allocation that supports their businesses. Examples of use cases can be found here - www.makea

The brg is an advocate for dotbrand registry operators and future applicants, protectng our members' interest in policy development at icann. The brg actively raises awareness of dotbrand registries and their use cases, illustrating the benefits that operating a dotbrand registry can bring to organizations, their customers, and on-line users. The ability to control an area of the internet promotes greater security and trust for users. To support these activities, the brg is actively engaged within the icann community, including with icann's government advisory committe (gac), which represents governments and international governmental organizations in icann's multi-stakeholders representative structure. The brg participates in policy development work at icann which includes providing public comments. Position papers are also prepared for our members. Brg members regularly receive a newsletter that covers current topics, trends, and industry reports. It also fully briefs on brg activities and the wider domain name industry. The brg participates in events and icann meetings to raise awareness of dotbrands. Individual services are not provided by the brg to members. The servies are generic for, and on behalf of, all members. Dues cover membership and access to all the services.
