Mission
BrasArte has four major goals: 1 To preserve the traditional dances and music of Brasil 2 To preserve the historical roots of Brasil's vibrant culture by helping to support and care for its aging artists and mentors 3 To nurture new and emerging artistic talent 4 To provide cultural exchange between Brasil and the United States
Programs

BrasArte produces two major festivals marking important celebrations in the Afro Brazilian calendar. The Bay Area Brazilian Day & Lavagem Festival is a day-long street festival (over 500 attendees), and the Yemanja Festival is a series of events, workshops and performances (700+ attendees). In addition BrasArte hosts several music and dance concerts and performances throughout the year.
BrasArte's Carnaval contingent Ginga Brasil has paraded annually for over 36 years. Over 200 musicians and dancers paraded this year. Estimated attendance at the 2025 SF Carnaval parade was over 400,000.
EWE is a weeklong intensive residential retreat held in Bahia Brazil, for students of Afro Brazilian traditional dance. (We did not hold the Ewe Retreat during the fiscal year. We moved it from June to December but had to cancel due to low sign up numbers).
