Breaking Free

Advocacy: Breaking Free continued to be a strong voice for survivors, driving systemic change and ensuring that their needs are met through our advocacy efforts. A key accomplishment this year was the shift to mobile advocacy, allowing our advocates to meet survivors where they are and provide tailored support. This mobile approach has enabled us to reach more individuals in need, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing traditional services. Our advocacy work also included influencing local policy changes that enhanced legal protections for survivors and improved access to essential services.After intake, each client is assigned an advocate who helps them develop a personalized goal plan and connect with the necessary resources. Our clients often face complex challenges, including poverty, homelessness, chemical dependency, and mental health issues, requiring comprehensive services to address these barriers. The 14-week Sisters of Survival (SOS) educational support group continues to be a cornerstone of our programming, empowering participants to share their experiences and learn about the dynamics of sex trafficking and other forms of violence. Graduates of the SOS program are encouraged to join our Alumni Group, which provides ongoing support and education on topics such as financial literacy, parenting, and self-esteem. Throughout our services, we focus on empowering survivors to achieve their full potential.

Outreach: Our outreach efforts have expanded significantly with the purchase of a new mobile outreach vehicle, allowing us to extend our reach to more individuals at risk of exploitation. This mobile unit has been instrumental in building relationships with vulnerable populations, providing them with immediate access to resources, stabilization services, and connections to housing. We continue to participate in anti-trafficking street outreach initiatives across Ramsey County and the City of Minneapolis, partnering with community organizations and law enforcement. Through these efforts, we have engaged with numerous unsheltered individuals, offering them the support they need to escape exploitation and start their journey to recovery.Breaking Free's accomplishments this year reflect our ongoing commitment to empowering survivors of sex trafficking, providing them with the support, advocacy, and housing they need to rebuild their lives.
