California Alliance For Community Composting

Cacc, dba desert compost, worked with the city of palm springs to provide community education on climate resilience and to support the development of the city's first community compost site. With support from the coachella valley mountains conservancy, we implemented 16 school composting programs, launched and expanded 3 compost hubs for coachella valley residents, and hosted community workshops. Desert compost developed a successful model to train, coordinate, and retain compost volunteers necessary to scaling this community-based work

Cacc, in collaboration with epic renewal, developed metrics tracking software to improve operation efficiencies and provide data for fundraising and other purposes. Ccgs ii project sites produced and distributed 800 cubic yards of compost from diverting 1,975,118 lbs of material (988 tons), of which 38% was wasted food (750,957 lbs), and planted 540 trees. This resulted in total greenhouse gas emission reductions of 206 mtco2e from landfill diversion, and another 1,850 mtco2e from trees over the next 39 years. Cacc supported 33.7 fte jobs statewide in 2024.
