4) summer seminar clta partners with the california world language project to offer a residential summer seminar at ucsb for language educators. We choose a timely theme for our members and bring in the best minds in the state and country to be guest speakers and strand facilitators related to the seminar theme. One of the strands offered is a student strand, intended to attract talented undergraduates to the field of world language education. 5) summer study and travel abroad for members clta solicits donations to support opportunities for our members to travel abroad with the intention of improving their language and target culture proficiency. We offer scholarships to defray travel costs, and partner with organizations to offer free tuition to educational programs designed to improve pedagogical practices. 6) leadership development clta offers a leadership development program (calli) as part of its annual conference. Identified teachers are supported to attend the regular conference and participate in a 2-day workshop designed to grow their leadership capacity for their sites, districts, counties, and for other organizations to which they may belong, such as clta. We also send one candidate per cycle to a similar 2-year national leadership development program (lill). Several current board members have been identified as a result of their participation in these activities. 7) clta voices clta publishes a free bi-monthly newsbrief that advertises our programs as well as activities from other organizations related to world languages and cultures.
