California Latinas For Reproductive Justice

Policy and advocacy:policy advocacy is one of clrj's core strategies and program areas. Clrj educates policymakers on issue areas that impact the 7.5 million california latinas, serves as a thought leader and collaborator with state and national advocates, trains leaders on the policy process and how to advocate for themselves, as well as conducting local, state and federal policy advocacy to improve the health and well-being of latinas/es and their families in california.accomplishments:- in 2024 the policy department at clrj trained 15 young parent leaders through other young parents leadership cohort in policy advocacy, narrative shift, and community-informed research. This led to shifting power to policy from inception to creation of the justice for young families policy primer. - clrj co-sponsored ab3170 (ortega), a bill that would support patient privacy and family integrity by preventing harmful and racially discriminatory referrals to the family regulation system following invasive drug testing of birthing parents and babies.- of the 70 bills that clrj supported with letters or in other ways in 2024, 33 bills were passed by the legislature and signed by the governor.- clrj's policy staff expanded their learning and the network of partners and allies by participating in several conferences on issues ranging from abortion to tgi rights, to guaranteed income programs, and family policing.

Research:clrj's research program, seeks to promote the reproductive/sexual health and justice of the most underserved latinas/es in california by informing, shaping and increasing the availability of community informed, policy-relevant research concerning latinas'/es' reproductive and sexual health that is accessible to policymakers, policy advocates and latina/e community as a whole.accomplishments:- primary research: two surveys - one on abortion (la county abortion safe haven) and one on the lives of young parents (justice for young families) in los angeles county were finalized, piloted and launched at six in-person survey sessions in bell gardens.- external research: clrj research staff continued their participation in the following partner research projects: youth abortion project-begin analysis and draft the research brief; california home abortion via telemedicine (chat) w uc san francisco reproductive health initiative for telehealth equity & solutions-creation and launch of the abortion myths and facts tarot card page on clrj website; uc san francisco x ibis reproductive health x rj partner organizations-medication abortion policy priorities and report.- advisory board participation-clrj participated in the following advisory boards at the invitation of institutional and organizational partners ucla bixby advisory board, medication abortion over the counter advisory board, uc san francisco x university of texas, austin reach youth community advisory board.
