California Tax Education Council

The organization conducts a wide variety of far reaching public awareness programs to inform the public of the requirements for unlicensed tax preparers practicing in California, warn of the potential issues of having tax returns prepared by unlicensed preparers, and educate the public on other matters of concern covered under the organization's mission.These programs are delivered in mutiple languages and in multiple formats such as social media advertisements, blog posts, radio, podcast and brochure.

The organization issues certificates to tax preparers meeting minimum education requirements established by California legislation.For the period and tax year ended June 30, 2025, the organization certified over 39,000 individuals.

The organization reimburses the California Franchise Tax Board for the cost of enforcement activities pursuant to the California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 19167.
