Camp Bighorn

Retreat groups: proclaiming the gospel of jesus christ to each group. Bighorn ministries uses the outdoor environment, high adventure activities, small group experiences, and discipleship principles to facilitate family and individual health. Spiritual formation is the goal and emphasis is placed on both the context as well the content of biblical discipleship.

Journey program: the mission of the journey gap year program is to deepen an applied biblical understanding of god, self, and community through the integration of academics and adventure discipleship curriculum. Journey requires that someone leave the environment they know to enter into the adventure of life in a new place. Changed environments remove us from our comfort zone where our current answers and skills feel sufficient and lead us into our adventure zone where we are faced with the need to grow in our understanding and abilities in order to meet the demands of the new situation. This creates the perfect environment for learning where people desire to grow and seek truth. The program design of journey intentionally moves students through a variety of changed environments, keeping someone in their adventure zone. Lessons learned in each environment are able to be tested and applied as students face new circumstances. Journey will lead students into adventure through contexts like white water kayaking, rock climbing, extended backpacking trips, the academic classroom, life away from constant exposure to media, living in community, leading campers on outdoor adventures, serving in the city, and facilitating a camp in mexico.

Venture troubled youth expeditions: venture expeditions for struggling youth are designed to take both students and staff out of their comfort zones in order to build community and growth. Real life experiences on the river or in the wild act as life lessons and are facilitated to help participants gain a better understanding of themselves, their morals, values, and life decisions. The desired outcome is that students would be able to walk in truth in understanding what it means to make life choices and how they affect themselves and impact others.instead of trips that provide immediate gratification, or just recreational relief, venture trips engage students in such a way that ask them to process life together in community. Venture trips are designed for staff and students to engage in experience and challenge in such a way that is conducive to character building and growth.
