Candlelighters for children with cancer's emergency financial assistance program alleviates the financial strains faced by oregon and sw washington families undergoing childhood cancer treatment. Families apply through their hospital social workers who then refer the families to candlelighters. Through the program, families with a child aged 21 or younger in cancer treatment can receive up to 599 annually to cover essential needs including housing, utilities, car payments and other household expenses. This program directly addresses the economic hardships compounded by high medical expenses, lost income and travel costs that families battling pediatric cancer go through. In 2024, 122 families were served, spanning 21 counties.
