The Carl Maxey Center CMC is a Black-led, Black-focused, Non-Profit organization and Community Center, housed in Spokane?s historic East Central neighborhood. We are committed to changing the lives and improving the well-being of Spokane?s African American community in Spokane County, with a particular emphasis and focus on the East Central neighborhood by expanding educational, economic, and cultural opportunities with a focus on Equity, Racial, and Social Justice, Economic Development, Education and Advocacy, Environmental Resilience, and Cultural Enrichment.

CMC is committed to changing the lives and improving the well-being of Spokane's African American community by providing Community Support and engagement through expanding educational, economic, and cultural opportunities with a focus on Equity, Racial, and Social Justice, Economic Development, Education and Advocacy, Environmental Resilience, and Cultural Enrichment.
Started in 2023, The Sandy Williams Justice Center provides free legal assistance to Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian-Pacific Islander, other People of Color, and justice-system impacted individuals. The center is located in Spokane County and focuses on providing access to services for individuals and families of color and the East Central community. Services include a monthly drop-in legal clinic, toll-free helpline, video conferencing service, and a website with self-help resources.
Our goal of the Black Business Support is to identify and address the challenges and barriers that currently exist for Black-owned Businesses by providing support and resources that are needed to ensure their long term success and sustainability. For the year 2023, we supported 222 businesses.
