Mission

Catalyst supports economic growth and revitalizes low-income communities by increasing the flow of capital to small businesses and mission-driven developers and organizations.

Programs

2 programs

Microenterprise loans: catalyst partners with local government agencies and municipalities to create, develop, and manage various funding and technical assistance programs to advance community and economic development goals. Catalysts proactively educates these entities on the needs of its communities and the financial resources available to them to fulfill these needs. In conjunction with agency staff members and elected officials, catalyst creates sustainable loan programs that efficiently deliver funding while simultaneously ensuring sustainability of the program to maximize its impact.

Expenses: $19K

Technical assistance and minority training: catalyst's technical assistance platform includes its minority developer mentorship & training program ("mdmt"). The purpose of mdmt is to educate minority developers on the comprehensive process of real estate development, including site selection, zoning & permitting, design, construction management and financial forecasting, helping to build capacity for local minority developers to meet the need and demand for affordable housing in the target market. The program includes one-on-one meetings, bi-weekly group trainings, and networking events with local real estate professionals. While all minority developers are welcome to participate whether or not they are interested in catalyst's financing, many mdmt participants do become borrowers for catalyst's affordable housing loan program. Along with mdmt, catalyst provides technical assistance through various workshops, including affordable housing development counseling services, the small business survive & thrive series, and the economic development and capacity building workshop, which are discussed in more detail in the development services section below.
