Mission

Catalytic communities is dedicated to developing models for effective integration between informal and formal settlements in cities across the globe, based on the experience of rio de janeiro and implementing asset-based community development. We do this through a combination of research, education, training, strategic communications, technology, networks, advocacy and participatory urban planning. Programs include training favela leaders in communication and strategy, conducting educational community visits in partnership with u.s. Universities, public lectures, conducting research, educational publications, development of land rights policy proposals and convening and mapping community assets and organizations. The organization scales its activities by disseminating models and approaches developed to other community development organizations worldwide after pioneering and incubating programs in rio de janeiro.
