Mission

The organization's primary mission is to increase the capacity among nonprofit legal service providers, court-based self help centers, and other similar entities, to enable low and moderate-low income individuals to claim their pension benefits in divorce.

Programs

4 programs

Provided bespoke QDRO basics or QDRO issue-spotting trainings for specific QLSPs as requested. The issue-spotting trainings are particularly useful for programs that do not offer family law services but which work with large numbers of seniors, who may have lingering QDRO issues unresolved from a past divorce.

Expenses: $52K

Provided consultation and technical assistance including being available for questions on an as needed basis and consulting with staff at legal aids and self-help centers to determine what QDRO services a particular case may need and develop a plan in partnership with them to secure their client's interest.

Expenses: $52K

Conducted plan research to locate retirement benefits which were not disclosed by the in-spouse and secure those benefits pending QDRO entry by creating NAIs or Joinders and helping to draft or review Judgment language related to retirement benefits.

Expenses: $52K

Drafted QDROs for each retirement plan at issue, including completing any needed calculations, and obtaining pre-approval of the QDRO draft from the specific Plan's administrator. Made a software platform available to staff at legal aids and self-help centers that allows those staff members to perform these functions themselves with support from Center staff, and several QLSP staff throughout the state regularly use it.
