Antibiotic resistance:cddep views antibiotic effectiveness as a shared resource: using an antibiotic nowincreases the oppurtinity for bacteria to develop resistance and thus reduces ourability to use that antiobiotic in the future. Addressing antiobitic resistance isdiffucult because patients, physicians, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, andagricultural users have insufficient incentives to act in ways that would conserveantibiotic effectiveness.

Modeling infectious diseases in healthcare network (mind healthcare):the models developed through this proposal will improve understanding of howbiological factors associated with the transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms(mdro) impact interventions to reduce hospital-associated infections (hais). Thiswill aid predictions of patients risk for colonization and infection, as well asimprove understanding of how interventions can most effectively be combined to reduce the likelihood that patients will suffer from these high-consequence pathogens.
