Center For World Music

The center for world music (cwm) hosted a public concert and community workshop program with year-round performances in various san diego venues. Annually, cwm showcases 12 different world music dance raditions, engaging audiences of all ages. The ticketed concert series features local and visiting artists, promoting cultural understanding through performances and interaction.from january to june, 2021, the cwm presented six public concerts that attracted an estimated 700 attendees.separately, community perormances, in collaboration with local libraries and cultural groups highlighted the citys musical diversity. The community program included free mini-concerts, with an estimated 15 events that drew over 350 participants.support for this initiative comes from the city of san diego commission for arts and culture, private foundations, donors, and ticket sales.

The center runs a school for teaching odissi dance (a classical dance form from india) to community members as well as to students in public schools with many public performances by the students and the teacher. The teachers come from india on p-3 visas to be teachers in residence for a period of one year. The current number of students is 30 with tuitions varying from $20 to $35 for one-hour class.
