Mission

Educating and promoting the preservation of the visual arts broadly interpreted to include heritage objects collections architecture and sites. The organization serves the community through the following activities: i study and research ii education and training opportunities through technical field projects iii outreach and iv the dissemination of information. These activities are performed through the following Program Services: i Historic Buildings and Sites ii Arts and Collections iii Research Analysis and Study of Cultural Heritage and iv Education and Dissemination.

As part of CENCORs initiative for the Conservation of Heritage on Paper books and photographs -Papel se Conserva- the Art and Collections Division we finished an important 2-year project in collaboration with the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts CCAHA a non-profit regional conservation center thanks to the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities NEH. This Project included a Symposium workshops a seminar for professionals five 5 research publications three 3 fellowship opportunities for emerging professionals. Between 2024 and 2025 CENCOR developed five 5 of the expected publications celebrated over five 5 additional workshops around the Islands a webinar discussion on the preservation of photographic materials in collections through Puerto Rico.

In May 2025 CENCOR celebrated the 1st Symposium on the Preservation of paper-based collections in Puerto Rico. The event was held at the Centro para Puerto Rico of the Sila Caldern Foundation thanks to the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities NEH. The two-day Symposium gathered preservation professionals scholars librarians archivists students emerging professionals and the public to discuss issues affecting the protection and preservation of paper-based collections in Puerto Rico. The Symposium hosted 15 presentations and over 200 attendees from May 2nd through the 3rd. The event was fully recorded and will be publicly accessible on our social media pages in early 2026. Additionally CENCOR continued the development of public conferences and webinars throughout the year on topics related to the preservation of public art photographic materials and historic sites in Puerto Rico and abroad. These are free and open to the public. These conferences are being recorded and will be published on our social media channels in early 2026.
