Year 1 - Chamber Music Charleston creates musical adaptation of original part (with permission from composer): $870 Chamber Music Charleston musicians record a string quartet practice recording for use as students prepare for the production. $2,175 Chamber Music Charleston musicians participate in one rehearsal with students (no more than 2 1/2 hours in length), dress rehearsal with students (no more than 2 1/2 hours in length), and final performance of the production. $2,175 Year 2: Chamber Music Charleston musicians work with select Haut Gap Middle School string students to prepare and perform music. CMC will visit the once a week for 6 consecutive weeks to work with the students as they prepare the music for the final production. The elementary school vocal students will be able to rehearse with the previous year's string quartet rehearsal recording as the select Middle School strings students learn the chamber ensemble parts. Chamber Music Charleston is requesting funds to support both a series of in-school Classical Kids Performances at three Johns Island Elementary Schools and also a series of residencies at Haut Gap Middle School. The in-school Classical Kids Performances would take place in late September or early October at Angel Oak, Frierson, and Mt. Zion Elementary Schools. Each performance is approximately 45 minutes in length and is specifically created for children in grades K-3 and 4-5. The program includes a basic introduction to the instruments (focusing on the SC Arts Curriculum Standards requested by the music teachers), a sing-along/audience interaction piece of music, and a story set to music. For the 2024-2025 season, CMC is creating a new program to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The focal story of this program is "Dream Drum Girl by Newbery Award-winning author Margarita Engle.
