Permanently protect the land and the wildlife of the upper Tallulah River watershed

LAND CONSERVATION: continue to inform key stakeholders of the terms and limits of the conservation easement held by The Conservation Fund TCF; create and update a frequently asked questions FAQs fact sheet; arrange for periodic site visits by TCF to insure compliance with the terms of the conservation easement; inventory land conservation tools to conserve the Tallulah River watershed and encourage their use; prioritize land conservation projects in the watershed and determine ways to promote then; and continue to seek opportunities to acquire additional land in the watershed to augment the mission of the Charles H. Wharton Conservation Center.

RESEARCH: continue to identify research institutions with whom to collaborate and establish relationships with each; engage a scientific advisory panel including members from collaborating institutions to establish protocols for appropriate research including limits and prohibitions and to review requests to conduct research on the Wharton Center; develop and maintain on-site support facilities laboratories library equipment weather station etc. for researchers; promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research at the Wharton Center that focuses on ecosystem and natural communities; and promote publication of research results in both scientific journals and non-academic outlets

LEGACIES: continue to honor the contributions of Mrs. Carol Miley e.g. scholarship program; support Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library caretakers of Dr. Whartons journals research papers etc. and inform researchers educators of their availability; and support the preparation and publication of a history of Dr. Whartons career. Expenses $8,370

EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION: continue to identify educational institutions with whom to collaborate and engage an Educational Advisory Panel; inventory compatible educational programs in the area and ways to support them; investigate trail linkages ex. Appalachian Trail Bartram Trail and how the Wharton Center might serve as a base camp; and offer on and offsite programs led by Wharton Center.

ADVOCACY: continue to explore the concept of a "Retreat Center" that will promote the development of the "big ideas" that Dr. Wharton was known for; initiate the training of land conservation advocates in the Southern Appalachians; and provide seed money or grants for advocacy retreats.
