CHEROKEE SKATEPARK COMMITTEE IS RAISING FUNDS TO DEVELOP A 125' X 35' SKATE/BMX/SCOOTER PARK ALONG EAST MAIN STREET. THE PROPOSED SITE HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE THE BEST SITE FOR THIS RECREATIONAL VENUE DUE TO ITS PROXIMITY TO THE RECENTLY COMPLETED MAGNETIC PARK, A 50 ACRE NATURAL AREA THAT INCLUDES A HISTORIC BARN, A POND, AND A 10' WIDE, .97 MILE TRAIL THAT CIRCLES MAGNETIC POND AND CONNECTS TO THE REST OF THE CITY'S TRAIL SYSTEM. THERE IS PARKING CLOSE BY THE SITE OF THE PROPOSED SKATE/BMX/SCOOTER PARK AND IT IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO ALL BY ROADWAY OR THE TRAIL. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF DISCUSSING THE NEED FOR A SKATE PARK, A COMMITTEE WAS FORMED IN THE FALL OF 2021 AND THE PLANNING AND FUNDRAISING SEGMENT OF THE PROJECT WAS BEGUN. OUR INTENT IS TO PROVIDE A NEW OPTION FOR OUR YOUNGER RESIDENTS AS WELL AS VISITORS TO GET EXERCISE AND IMPROVE THEIR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH ALONG WITH A PLACE TO GATHER AND HAVE FUN TOGETHER.
