Mission

Chesapeake water environment association's (chesapeake wea) mission is to lead the chesapeake region in educating and connecting members to improve the water environment. The association strives to do this through public education, the exchange of technical and scientific information amoung water quality professionals, the training of wastewater and water treatment plant operators, and by offering technical expertise and advice to the law-making and regulatory processes.

During 2024, the water environment federation (wef), of which chesapeake wea is a member, held weftec (water environment technology) 2024. This year the focus was on sharing water stories. In its 97th year, this annual technical exhibition and conference was held in new orleans, la from october 5, 2024 - october 9, 2024. There were approximately 21,000 registrants and over 1,000 exhibiting companies. During the year, wefmax (member association exchange) held three meetings throughout the united states, which were attended by several of the members.

The various committees of chesapeake wea presented training programs, joint forums and several seminars and technical webinars in 2024. Listed below are some highlights: 1.) in conjunction with csawwa, a joint career fair was held february 16, 2024 at the quality inn conference center in bowie, md. There were 39 students and 48 interviewing organizations in attendance. On april 1, 2024, a two day joint utility management conference was held at hanover, md. Also with csawwa, the annual spring meeting was held on may 23, 2024 at wolf lodge, perryville, md.2.) the technical education committee held six webinars on the following topics: strategic planning, asset management, government affairs, stormwater and water reuse.3.) the young profesessional committee held several networking, community service and educational events. 4.) there were two public outreach events: the key bridge area clean-up and the public works experience big truck day. 5.) the student activities committee held water palooza in washington, dc. Approximately 100 students and 44 members volunteered for this event.
