Gardening programing - through our chicas verdes student programming, we rejuvenated and maintained three school gardens and facilitated 7,079 outdoor hours for 631 students during recess and after-school sessions. Using our self, nature, society framework, students engaged in hands-on activities that promoted personal well-being, deepened their connection to the natural world, and fostered a sense of responsibility to their communities through gardening, environmental education, and sustainability practices.

Expenses: $155K

Parent workshops - facilitated a series of eight hands-on workshops for parents and caregivers focused on food access, environmental stewardship, community building, and self-care. Activities included planting herbs to promote food sovereignty, learning about composting and reducing household waste, exploring the connection between nature and mental health through floral design, and addressing environmental justice through indoor air quality education and candle making. Additional workshops supported healthy eating through cooking lessons, strengthened community leadership, emphasized the role of nutrition in academic success, and promoted mindfulness and self-care practices.

Expenses: $19K

Community garden events - hosted community garden days that engaged community members and alumni in hands-on volunteer opportunities. Participants helped maintain school gardens while learning about gardening, sustainability, composting, and ways to stay connected to nature and support ongoing programming.

La public library plant day workshops - hosted two plant day workshops in partnership with the los angeles public library to engage community members in nature-based learning. In one workshop, 40 participants explored the connection between nature and mental health and created their own floral bouquets. In the second, 40 participants learned how to plant and maintain herbs, along with their medicinal benefits. These workshops supported community well-being and increased access to environmental education in public spaces.
