A Cities Summit event was sponsored by C7 via a grant provided to Instituto Boas Ondas (IBO) a Brazilian nonprofit organization via its director Marco Brandao (C7 / IBO). The Rio Ocean Forum (ROF) took place during the G20 Summit, at the G20 House in Rio de Janeiro. The ROF featured 25 participants, which engaged in a professionally recorded, 5-hour round-table discussion pertaining to ocean conservation in Rio. Participants included representatives from the Brazilian government, academic institutions, public figures, and community organizers. This forum was designed to assemble a diverse set of minds to help drive discussion forward on challenges related to urban-ocean sustainability. Participants created 7 take-away action items as a result of the forum.

C7s first grant to an environmental organization was administered to Route International to support 10 community beach cleanups / environmental education activities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which resulted in the removal of thousands of pieces of trash from nature, bringing awareness and education to over 1,000 participants. Route not only organizes beach cleanups, but also incorporates education into its activities: every bag of trash collected is sorted by item and material and each piece of trash is recycled. Nothing is sent to the landfill. These qualities make Route cleanups special, and aligned with C7s mission of fostering sustainable communities, and promoting environmental preservation in cities.
